We plan and install wet rooms in Mossley Hill for people who want to stay in their homes for the long term. A good plan-ahead wet room looks like an ordinary modern shower room, but it already has level access, solid walls for rails and room for a seat, so it can be adapted later without ripping it out.
Why plan before you need it?
Adapting a bathroom in a hurry, after a fall or a hospital stay, is stressful and often leaves little choice. Doing it while you are well means you can pick finishes you like, schedule the work around your life and have the room ready before it becomes urgent. Mossley Hill has many larger family houses and long-term owners, and this is one of the most common reasons we are asked to visit.
Designing for now and later
We think about the room in two stages.
What goes in now
- A level, tanked floor falling to a discreet drain
- A thermostatic shower with a handset on a riser rail
- A fixed glass screen rather than a tray and door
- Good lighting, an extractor fan and, if you want, underfloor heating
What we prepare for
- Noggins or solid fixing points behind the tiles where rails or a seat may go
- Enough clear floor to manoeuvre a frame or wheelchair
- A doorway that could be widened or rehung outward if needed
- Space for a comfort-height toilet
Thinking about these early costs little extra and saves disruption later. If you already know someone in the household has mobility needs, our page on accessible bathroom design goes further.
Larger homes, upstairs bathrooms
Most Mossley Hill bathrooms are on the first floor with suspended timber floors. A wet room there normally uses a pre-formed former between the joists. Larger houses sometimes have a second bathroom or an en-suite, and turning one of those into a wet room while keeping a bath elsewhere is a sensible middle ground for families. We check the floor, the waste route and the walls at the visit before recommending anything.
Looks matter too
A wet room does not need to feel clinical. Large-format tiles, wall panels, a frameless screen and a matt finish on rails can look as good as any designer bathroom. Rails come in finishes that do not shout “hospital”. If the room is small, our small wet room page has ideas for making it feel bigger.
Council and VAT points
Mossley Hill is covered by Liverpool City Council for Disabled Facilities Grants. A plan-ahead wet room for someone without a current need is unlikely to qualify, as grants are generally based on an occupational therapist’s assessment of present needs. VAT relief for disabled people’s adaptations also depends on eligibility, so check before assuming it applies.
We regularly work in Aigburth and Wavertree too. For more on how we approach wet rooms across Liverpool and Merseyside, see the homepage, and look at the cost guide for the factors that drive the price.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth fitting a wet room before I need one?
For many people, yes. Fitting it while you are well lets you choose the design, avoid a rushed job later and build in fixing points for rails and a seat. It also avoids having to rip out a newer bathroom if your needs change. It is a personal decision, and we are happy to talk through both options.
Will a wet room put buyers off if I sell my Mossley Hill house?
A well-designed wet room looks like a modern shower room, and many buyers like that. Some families do want a bath, though, so if the house has only one bathroom you might consider keeping a bath elsewhere or fitting the wet room in an en-suite.
Can I get a DFG for a plan-ahead wet room?
Generally not. Disabled Facilities Grants through Liverpool City Council are based on an occupational therapist’s assessment of current needs, and adult grants are means-tested. If your needs change later, it is worth asking the council for an assessment then.
Can you hide the rail fixings until they are needed?
We can put solid fixing points behind the wall finish in agreed positions and record where they are, so rails or a seat can be added later without guessing. We will mark them on the plan we give you.
